The Newberry Slacks release their debut single “Consequences”

The Newberry Slacks is the latest music project from the Delaware-based duo of Frank McKelvey and Ed Schmidt. When the lifelong friends formed The Newberry Slacks in 2023, they certainly didn’t expect that their first release would be a good old-fashioned protest song. “When we started writing our debut single, ‘Consequences’, it really grabbed our attention.”, says Schmidt. “It’s a protest song that expresses our – and many other people’s – concerns over the state of things in the world right now.”

From its first chords, “Consequences” is driven by the urgency of the duo’s punk-styled guitar work, which frame lyrics that explore today’s political landscape. The opening verse reminds listeners that we are in uncharted times.

“Consider the chaos surrounding
Every episode and the common response
What we used find completely astounding
They shrug it off with nonchalance…”

The Newberry Slacks enlisted award-winning Philly musician and producer, John Faye, to produce the song. McKelvey says: “John is a professional in every sense of the word. He created an incredibly supportive working environment, and his guidance elevated the song”.

The single will be released on all streaming platforms on February 9 and the accompanying music video is on the band’s YouTube channel.
